EDIT: October's SOTM has been chosen. Please congratulate the winner, the talented kate!

I'm much better now. Thanks to all who wished me to get well soon! It was merely a case of the sniffles. I'm back to business again! I like being back at college, but the downside of taking a day off is that you feel a little out of the scheme of things when you return. I had no idea what my French tutor, Diane, was talking about today. But both she and my other French tutor, Isabelle, seemed impressed that I had done the work that needed handing in. I think that they get a bit skeptical of people being absent on the day that there's work due in...

I've applied for the qbee for the second time today. The first time I applied, I was about thirteen or fourteen years old, and my web design skills left much to be desired. Seriously, the devil's rectum would have made a prettier webpage. Hopefully, this time the admins will like my website. I get the impression that you have to be rather good at web design to join the qbee, but I thought it was worth trying, even if my site isn't the most stunning out there. I do put a lot of effort into this place and I try to make that shine through!

So, I had a trial shift last night (as mentioned in the previous entry) and I got the job! I am so glad I did. With a salary of £5.50/hour - plus tips! - I am sure to be a little less financially pressured in a few weeks, which is really great news. I had to find another job because my current stint at The Shepherd & Dog just isn't giving me enough hours or pay. I get below minimum wage, which is bloody illegal, but because I like the job so much I've worked there for a year. As much as I love the job I already have, I'm going to have it as my secondary source of income rather than my only one. I can't afford to only have one three-hour shift a week, if I'm lucky. So I've gone in search of greener pastures - and greener pastures I found!
What made my jaw drop about this new job is the fact it is possible to get up to around £130 in tips, and £30-70 is considered "average" for a Saturday/Sunday, which are the days I will be working! I will manage my own section and The Yew Tree prides itself on table service, so there will be a lot more responsibility in this job. I'm a little scared, to be honest... this is the most challenging job I've had, and I am nervous about fluffing up. I don't really fancy losing out on such a good job, and I think that as I've only just started working there, I am not completely "safe" just yet. I have to work really hard if I'm to impress them!
