I am back from Bristol - I got home last night after gruelling travel conditions... more about that in just a sec.

Well, I got to Bristol on Sunday afternoon, which was great because then me and lauren went to have dinner in Ask Italian restaurant, where we had the most delicious carbonara money can buy! We're definitely going there again! Because lauren had just moved into her new place that day, we did lots of unpacking, arranging, and generally sprucing the place up to make it liveable. The place was quite dirty when we arrived because the previous tenants hadn't tidied up too well, so we rang the landlord, who came in to clean things up - although I went a bit Mary Poppins and wiped down the worktops and put lots of things away because I am so obsessive about neatness!
There was food and houseware shopping that needed doing, as the rooms were missing quite a few necessities - so we popped into ikea on the second day to grab the essentials. lauren's mirror wasn't counted on the receipt, so she didn't even have to pay for the thing - we didn't realise until we read the receipt on the bus home... how lucky! I bought myself a pretty ektorp byvik cushion, which I have added to my room - because it's full of flowery, patterned fabrics, it goes perfectly.

The cushion also came in handy on the long bus journey back to London later that Monday! When I got to Victoria Station, I received news from Mum that the tube workers had gone on strike, so I would have to get the bus back to Liverpool Street Station in order to get home - arrghhh! This involved being stuck on a cramped, sweltering bus, for an hour, in congested traffic. It was hilarious because whenever someone tried to sneak onto the bus without a ticket, the passengers would all gang up on them and yell, "GERROFF!" The plus side of being on the bus was that I got quite a wonderful tour of London as I travelled along its route - I saw Buckingham Palace, Knightsbridge (home of world-famous harrods department store) Kensington Gardens, Earl's Court, the Grenadier Guards, the Cabinet Office, Westminster Abbey, the River Thames, HMS President, the Natural History Museum, Victoria & Albert Museum, Hyde Park, and even Downing Street, where our PM Gordon Brown lives - whew, quite a few sights for a little bus journey, eh? I have been here for so long now just to do average stuff like shopping and running errands, that I hadn't done anything truly "touristy" in ages... I'd forgotten half of this stuff existed in London, let alone gone past it on a bus! I guess I might take the bus more often - I got to see some lovely sights.

All in all, I had a fantastic time seeing lauren again as I'd really missed her. I was a bit downhearted after coming back to an empty house after all that fun, but I am adamant that I had a wonderful two days and I'll definitely be coming up to Brizzle to see her again - although I hope she can come down to London to meet me soon!

It was the first day of college today. I was actually really, really nervous about going back for some reason, and even more so when the traffic got bad and I knew that I was going to be around ten minutes late - so imagine my relief when I found out my form tutor, Emer, was running late and that in the commotion of the room change for tutorial, no one had noticed my less than punctual arrival. Result!
It's interesting watching the first-years - they look so young and confused, bless 'em. I had all of my classes today, so I was able to make friends and settle in pretty quickly. I was pleasantly surprised that the first-years and second-years alike were really easy to get along with, and I made plenty of new friends today. My classes this year seem to be full of committed, intelligent and sweet people - all of whom were second- or third- years, so it was nice to be surrounded by people closer to my age this time. The courses sound quite challenging, but I feel really enthusiastic about them - hopefully, this year is going to rock!
