"You find no man, at all intellectual, who is willing to leave London. No, Sir, when a man is tired of London, he is tired of life; for there is in London all that life can afford."
-- Samuel Johnson

New blogroll buddies momo and gigi!

I managed to lose the previous blog page, and I can't get the bloody thing back, either. I'm such a fucking plank sometimes...

My friend Tasha gave birth to a beautiful baby girl on March 27th! lauren came down to London to visit me on Tuesday. It was really fun, and I miss her already! We went shopping on Oxford Street (shopping hotspot!) walked past trafalgar square and the houses of parliament (along with the clock tower, housing the famous Big Ben) and even took a boat cruise along the thames! On the boat ride, we were shown things like tower bridge, the london eye, Somerset House (where my daddy works!) and the h.m.s. belfast.
It was nice to do these sorts of "touristy" things. Even though I don't live in the city centre, normally when I pop over (which is usually every couple of weeks) I tend to stick to shops, bars and such - which aren't really the best way to see the historical landmarks of the city. You forget where you're in one of the world's most famous cities quite easily when you're sitting in a pub with your mates!
We had two Italian meals in one day, too - definitely a good thing, by any stretch of the imagination. Carbonara + mozzarella with breadcrumbs = delish. My feet and the rest of me were both knackered by the end of the day, though... (Note to self: Don't wear high-heeled boots when expecting to spend a whole day walking about. Bad idea.) Nevertheless, I got to model my brand new vintage wash skinny jeans (of which lauren approved!)

I got my pre-departure information from lattitude global volunteering for my gap year placement in China. I'm meant to get vaccinations, health + police checks (and free health advice before and during the trip from interhealth, and attend a briefing on July 11th about the placement. I should also be receiving an "action pack" which gives further details on what my placement in China will be like! It's all very exciting!
What intrigues me the most is that the flight to kunming stops over in bangkok for a few hours before setting off into China. That's right - I get to visit Thailand! Well, I'm planning on going there anyway after the placement finishes, because it looks like an awesome place... but it's cool that I get to spend a little time there (most likely in a friggin' airport, but whatever) before going to Kunming. How bloody brilliant does that sound!?

I have work at 12PM. Bollocks.
