calorie counting

Mưa - Case Of The Ex

"Nothing would be more tiresome than eating and drinking if God had not made them a pleasure as well as a necessity."

Added fundraising information

It wasn't until today that I realised just how many calories were in a maccy d's. I had lunch today in a restaurant with Franki in Colchester and read the nutrition info on the tray liners - and my jaw dropped! My meal (a McChicken Sandwich meal) contained a total of 1075 calories - and 40g of fat! That means that, along with the pain du chocolat and fruit bag I had this morning, I've already consumed well over half of my recommended daily allowance, or RDA. I'm not normally one for totalling up my calorie intake. I'm not overweight, despite my occasional cry of "Waaah, I'm too faaat!" (don't glare at me, we image-conscious ladies all do it sometimes) so I've never really thought it necessary - but this has really made me take a closer look at my eating habits. I do love my junk food, and eat probably more than I should - so obviously, if I'm to stay healthy, my options at lunchtime definitely need to change. Argh.

Speaking of, sorry if you've been hearing way too much about this topic (it hasn't really been discussed here - in fact, I only heard about it online last night) but I feel the need to discuss Britney Spears' VMA comeback performance that everyone seems to have jumped on the bandwagon to bitch about at the moment. Now, I'm not a huge fan of Britney, and her performance did kinda suck. She was nervous, hadn't rehearsed enough, and it came out looking - and sounding - craptacular. I felt sorry for the poor lass, as it really was an embarrassing moment. She also lip-synced to a live concert for millions of viewers - if that isn't fecking lazy, I don't know what is. I know a lot of her fans were expecting an explosive comeback and were totally looking forward to it - are they going to believe she thinks so highly of them if she doesn't even try to put on a good show?
But that's not what I'm complaining about. A lot of press reviews of the comeback gig have made comments about Britney being "fat". What the fuck's wrong with people these days... look at the picture I've shown here - does that honestly look FAT to you? Do you look at that and think to yourself, "What a beast!" - because if you do, it's quite obvious that the mass media's made your mind as sick and twisted as their own. She must be, what, a UK Size 12 (US 8) max? I don't know about anyone else, but in this country we consider that to be a nice, healthy average size for a woman, especially one who's *ahem* had two children. What the shit do people expect her stomach to look like after that?! One minute the media's telling us "guys dig curves", the next they're telling us to cut down on those bars of choccie and spend several hours in the gym every morning - surely there's a happy medium where the right message can be relayed to today's women without confusing and hurting them like it is at the moment.
Sure, she doesn't have the muscle profile of a Grand National racehorse and isn't practically anorexic. And she probably shouldn't be wearing skimpy little outfits like that with that post-partum of hers. But fat? Seriously, people need to get real. I understand that as an entertainer she should be used to scrutiny and public criticism, but the press were calling her fat while she was eight months' pregnant, for fuck's sake. People make me so angry!
Personally, given a choice I'd rather look like "porky" Britney than this hideous bag 'o' bones...

After much deliberation over the costs and other arrangements to be made with university Open Days, I've narrowed my list of places to visit down to five. Obviously, there's other universities I'm interested in applying for, but I cannot expect to afford (or expect my mother to afford) a dozen trips all over the British Isles, just to spend three hours looking around a university I might not even like. I think I'll get a feel for a few of them, and go from there. Perhaps I'll visit more if/when I start getting offers.
Anyway, I'm off to the first of those this Friday afternoon - I'm going to nottingham for two days to look around. I have to stay there overnight as it's too far for me to get there on time if I go up on the actual day - so I'll be offline for a bit. Then on Monday, I'm going on another Open Day to soas, so I'll be back late then, too.

Lastly, you'll notice that I added a new fundraising section to pink-robots.com to give prospective donators information about the charity I'll be working with in China, gap activity projects. Please donate anything you can, even a tiny amount if you can afford it! If you can't afford to give money yourself I'd really appreciate it if you would please spread the world to help me achieve my target of £3000 - which I'm already well on the way to doing, but I need all the help I can get.
