Calvin Harris - Acceptable In The '80's

"We Germans fear God, but nothing else in the world."
-- Karl Otto von Schonhausen Bismarck

Got into the quilting bee!

Well, I'm now back from Germany. I had a great time, and have lots of lovely memories of the experience. Rather than go into a rambling monologue, I've decided it appropriate to condense the highs - and lows - of the trip into a little list, for ease of reading.

Things I Learned In Germany
West Berlin is infinitely better than East Berlin.
Do not eat spicy chilli chicken burgers in fast food outlets when in a foreign country, no matter how seemingly clean and civilised it may be. Your body will make sure you learn never to do this again.
The word "vegan" in Germany is met with an awestruck reply of, "but you can still eat cheese, ja?"
For a main shopping street, Alexanderplatz is probably best described as anti-climactic.
You will never understand how positively frightening it is to be yelled at in German until it actually happens to you.
It is not advisable to be up all night drinking if you have to be on a coach for several hours the next day.
I can actually get even paler than I already am. (See above for an explanation.)
Despite that we're often considered the main trendsetters for haute couture, British fashion receives a few incredulous stares when on the continent. Fortunately for us, both sides were laughing (I honestly didn't realise that Germans wore anoraks, multi-coloured jeans and rucksacks even when they weren't being tourists.)
Paying two euros to use a filthy public loo is perfectly normal in this part of the world.
No matter how interesting you find something, you will pass out the moment you sit down if you've been travelling non-stop for five days, running on three hours of sleep every night. Moreover, tour guides are not deterred by the fact that their not-so-captive teenage audience has eunanymously decided to fall asleep.

Summarily, I did get some good pictures (which I'll show soon enough!) and had some fantastic experiences, but I am rather glad to be back home with my moggies. Dave seems to be equally relieved, for he hasn't let me out of his sight since returning. Now to get on with the homework due in on Monday, and prepare for my first proper shift at my new job tomorrow evening...

Oh, and thanks to the quilting bee for letting me in! Thanks to everyone who wished me luck. If you want to trade patches and are a member yourself, be sure to contact me and ask!
