Alicia Keys - If I Was Your Woman

"Every time we walk along a beach some ancient urge disturbs us, so that we find ourselves shedding shoes and garments or scavenging among seaweed and whitened timbers, like the homesick refugees of a long war."

I went to Mersea Island with Daddy today for dinner, which was really nice as I haven't seen him for a few weeks, due to numerous factors I won't go into. We took a relaxing drive through the countryside and he surprised me by taking me over to the island, somewhere I haven't been since I was a kid. On the way there he showed me where he grew up and it was really nice to learn more about him as he doesn't often talk about his earlier life. We stopped at a seaside restaurant called The Victory in West Mersea, which was in a pretty area fronted by a hotch-potch of flashy, clean white yachts and rickety, painted old wooden fishing boats. Candy-coloured beach huts lined the waterfront like something out of a holiday brochure. (NB: Finding attractive-looking, non-shitty seaside towns in England can be somewhat difficult at the best of times.)
Daddy had fish & chips for lunch, whereas I had lasagne. We both had a slice of apple pie for dessert. I was fit to burst by the time we left and even felt a little nauseous in the car on the way home, but fortunately I perked up quickly and was able to enjoy the views on the return journey. All in all, I had a lovely evening with my father and hope we get to see each other again very soon! I miss him already!

Today was the last day of classes at college before the exams start. It was weird seeing my lessons come to an end after three years, and to be honest it was a bit of an anti-climax as there weren't that many people around - a stark contrast to the last day of Year 11, when my classmates would scrawl best wishes on my uniform, swap chocolates and sweets, and put messages in my yearbook. I'm not sure how I feel about it all ending. I'm glad there are no more lessons as I'm getting a bit old for college, but also apprehensive because now we're on our own and I am scared that I won't do well...
