So, firstly... exam results. I got an A and two B's. I'm really, really chuffed! I honestly thought I had failed them, so to get such amazing grades was quite a shock. I will be retaking a couple of modules in the hope of raising my profile to straight A's, but if it doesn't work out that way I think that they will look impressive enough just the way they are. After such a difficult two years of trying to just get through the first year of college, this is spectacular and I couldn't be happier with what I've managed to achieve. I now feel motivated to work really hard next year and I hope to get into a really good university, too!
Oh, and just for the record - due to the education system, it's a LOT harder to get an A here than it is to get one in the US. Grade boundaries are higher and the examinations are of a much higher level because the courses are optional once you've left secondary school. Sixth form isn't like high school. Getting a C is considered "excellent" here. So I have every fucking right to be pleased with myself.

I go back to college on September 4th. In the meantime, I've been working, trying to raise money to pay off my debt. So far, I've eradicated half of it! I've learned my lesson about store cards. You sort of don't take it into account that the money you're spending isn't free until you get that scary statement in the mail. So as soon as everything is paid off, I'm definitely cutting up my cards and throwing them in the bin!

I was supposed to be going to my friend Franki's birthday party on Saturday night, but due to strikes on the rail between Colchester and Liverpool Street, I ended up getting a coach into central London (which takes an hour and twenty minutes, due to the congestion on the roads.) By the time I got there, it was half past nine. At ten o' clock I'd arrived at Baker Street tube station and got to the Met Bar to find... no friends. Bollocks. Turns out that Franki had moved the party to a pub in Edgware, and had sent me a text which I didn't get until I turned my phone on (it turned off due to a low battery.) When I realised how far away Edgware was from Central London, it was about half past ten and I figured that trying to get there wouldn't bring me any success, and it would be a far better plan to make my way back to Liverpool Street Station and find a train that terminated as close to Colchester as possible (as I'd rather get stranded in Essex than in Central London so late at night - I value my life.) I blagged a train ticket to Stansted from a generous ticket master, then took the last bus back from Stansted Airport at 12AM, where I got a half rate ticket from the sympathetic driver. I got back to Colchester North Station at about half past one, then travelled home by taxi (which an old woman shared with me, and paid for most of the fare... very kindly.)
So, I never got to that party - but I did meet three very good-hearted people. I guess that isn't all bad!
