What exactly is the purpose of pink-robots.com?
It's just my own little personal space on the world wide web. :) It's good to have a means of expression.
How did you make this website?
I use HTML, PHP and occasionally a bit of JavaScript. If you want to learn more about creating a website of your own, lissa explains it all is a good place to start.
Where do you come up with ideas for the content of your site?
I get inspiration from all sorts of different places, but I try my best to be original where I can. If you see something you like on another person's site, it's always courteous to get their permission before taking it for your own. To do otherwise is considered plagiarism and will probably earn you a few enemies.
How do you make/manipulate the graphics you use on this website?
I use traditional artwork and edit it in Adobe Photoshop CS, or create my own graphics using the same program. Some graphics were not created by me or were taken and manipulated, but it is important to make sure they are free before doing so.
How long have you been designing websites for?
Since I was 12. You can read more about that here.
You don't update your blog too often..
I am very busy these days and have offline commitments that take priority over pink-robots.com, sadly. I try my best to update regularly with any interesting news I might have, but it isn't always possible.
What's a flamer?
A person who leaves non-constructive, mean comments (known as flames) on your website's guestbook or commenting system, or even sends you rude emails. When I first started out as a web designer, flamers were rife on the internet and there was not much to be done about them. Fortunately, it's been a long time since I had a flamer on my site, so perhaps people have matured since then. Either that, or my reputation as a fiesty harridan who takes shit from no one has very much preceded me.
If you get flamed by someone, try not to take it personally and don't let it discourage you from web design. If you feel upset about a flamer, go away from the computer for a while, and perhaps get rid of your guestbook or commenting system to make sure it never happens again. Alternatively, get a guestbook or commenting system that allows you to ban the flamer's IP and that lets you delete entries you don't like... or make them private, so they don't publicly humiliate you. Some commenting systems have an option where you can moderate comments yourself before they are published online. Always remember not to reply to an abusive post. You're just fuelling the fire, and the flamer probably WANTS you to do that!
Do you want to be a professional web designer?
For me, this is just a hobby, but I have a lot of admiration for anyone who chooses to pursue this as a career.
Why do you ask for my country on some of your email forms? Are you some kind of pervert?
Submitting your country is completely harmless - I can't find out exactly where you live based on that information. The only reason why I ask is because I like to know that people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures are visiting pink-robots.com from all over the world! For some of my competitions some knowledge of English is required, and if you are from a non-English speaking country, this can be taken into account when considering your application.
